The First Nigerian Bobsled Team Competing In The 2018 Winter Olympics Is All Female

In yet another example of how badass black women are, the Nigerian two-person bobsled team will become the first African team to ever qualify for a Winter Olympics in this event.

Kudos to the three former track stars who will make history for their country. According to Blavity.com,

Nigeria will make a Winter Olympics debut after Visa picked up sponsorship of the Women’s Bobsled Team to Pyeongchang 2018. Pilot Seun Adigun, and brakemen Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga have become a part of Team Visa who “recognized their collective spirit” as a brand fit.

Adigun, who represented Nigeria in the 100-meter dash at the 2012 Olympics, along with Onwumere and Omeoga, completed five of five required qualifying races in Calgary recently, setting the stage for them to make it to the Winter Games, according to Blavity.com.

Expect Nigeria to show up ready to win. Who says you have to live where it snows to master bobsledding? Thirty years ago, the Jamaica bobsled team thrilled the world. Look for Nigeria to shine in the spotlight.
