Texas Teacher Adopts 16 Year Old Student

Most everyone has memories of one or two teachers who made a difference in their lives, who encouraged them, made them believe in themselves and pushed them forward. But 16-year-old Anthony Berry, can top that. His teacher, Bennie Berry, adopted him.

According to a report by Fox5Atlanta.com, he asked his teacher to step up and become his new mom. It was a request she couldn’t believe at first. She told Fox5Atlanta.com, “At first I thought he was making jokes until he actually explained the situation,” the educator said. “Then, we struck a deal. Finish an assignment and then you can show me the website.”

The two officially became a family recently at an adoption ceremony in Beaumont, Texas. Anthony told Fox5Atlanta.com, “I didn’t think the day would ever come because of the fact that I didn’t want to be adopted,” the teen said. “Then, I met my mom. I started talking to her and we just kind of clicked.”

Anthony was reportedly the oldest child to be adopted in Jefferson County. The youngest child, of the 18 who were adopted at the recent ceremony, was one year’s old.

His experience has given him new faith in the adoption process. He told Fox5Atlanta.com, “Take into consideration that if someone doesn’t love you, there is always someone that will love you.”
