President Trump Went On A Bizarre Retweeting Spree Of Bots And Right-Wing Memes

On a scale of one to 10, with 10 representing Maximum Trump, President Donald Trump appeared to be operating at about an 8.5 during Wednesday’s executive time on Twitter. He started off the day by firing off a tweet comparing the Russia investigation to the “Joseph McCarthy era,” slamming the “disgusting Fake News” for neglecting to report unsubstantiated claims that Democrats are paying off witnesses to lie.

Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there, as the president went on to retweet the so-called “Trump Train” fan account, starting with a meme showing Special Counsel Robert Muller, former President Barack Obama, the Clintons, former FBI Director James Comey, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and other perceived opposition to the Trump administration behind bars.

In bold impact font, the image proclaims, “Now that Russia collusion is a proven lie, when do trials for treason begin?”

You know, just a world leader calling for the imprisonment of his enemies, like totalitarian dictators and authoritarian regimes do.

Trump then continued, retweeting the account three more separate times on the subjects of GM plant closures and illegal immigration.

From there he switched gears to his favorite topic, Hillary Clinton, retweeting a fake Mike Pence Twitter account which boldly proclaimed, “I’m thankful for every day Hillary Clinton is not President!” It’s unclear whether or not the president understands that’s not actually his VP.

After that, he continued harping on Hillary Clinton — who, again, is a private citizen and does not currently hold any kind of public office — with two retweets insinuating that the former Secretary of State is racist over an unfortunately worded quip.

This is not the first and will unlikely be the last time Trump has retweeted sources of questionable origin. In July, and then again in September of 2017, Trump retweeted doctored video footage of himself punching the CNN logo and hitting Hillary Clinton with a golf ball, respectively.

Then, later that year, the president retweeted videos from a far-right, anti-Muslim Twitter account, two of which were actually released by a Syrian al-Qaeda affiliate five years prior. So in retrospect, today’s retweets were almost … tame, in the grand scene of things?

In either case, Trump can retweet all he wants, but it’s still not going to stop Mueller’s investigation.
