Jamie Foxx doesn’t shy away from controversy. He will play Black Panther and Vietnam veteran Geronimo Pratt, who served nearly 30 years in prison for the 1968 murder that he did not commit in Signal Hill, a movie about the iconic police brutality case.
Anthony Mackie also stars as famed attorney Johnnie Cochran, who got the 1981 wrongful death case of Cal State Long Beach college football star Ron Settles overturned. According to Shadowandact.com, a conviction would have sent Pratt to jail for 27 years, including settling a false imprisonment suit. Settles was picked up for speeding and after his arrest, was found hanging in his cell. While the police called it suicide, according to Shadowact.com, an autopsy showed that he was choked to death. BET.com reports that Pratt was awarded $4.5 million for false imprisonment in 1998.
Expect good stuff. Signal Hill reunites Foxx with Ray director Taylor Hackford. Remember the duo has turned out magic in the past. Foxx won best actor and Hackford got nominated for best picture and best director for Ray.
