Tiffany Haddish may be the breakout star of 2017, but the Compton native stays humble. So down to earth in fact that when it comes to taking her own girls trip, Haddish told People Magazine that she opts for a roller skating outing or a Groupon excursion like the hilarious swamp tour she took Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith on during a break in filming Girls Trip.
At the swamp, Haddish said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Pinkett revealed that she had never heard of Groupon and had no idea that it would not be a private boat tour.
“All I could think was ‘Tiffany, you need to be as careful as possible,'” she explained of her stress while driving the Smiths to the swamp. “‘You don’t wanna be the bitch on TMZ who killed the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'”
The 37-year-old told People she stays in touch with her Girls Trip costars, Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Queen Latifah. Since the hit film, now available on DVD and On Demand, she’s even made new Hollywood friends.
“I talk to them all the time, and not just the ladies, either,” she told the celebrity magazine. “I’m in Atlanta shooting a movie and Kofi Siriboe came over to my house the other day with Issa Rae and ate fried chicken and drank all my soda.” Then fellow comedian Chris Rock came over. “This is amazing,” she said.
Prior to Girls Trip, Haddish spent years of doing standup comedy and appeared on NBC’s acclaimed The Carmichael Show and in movies like Keanu and Meet the Spartans. And she’s not letting her newfound success go to her head or her wallet.
“I’m probably going to be cheap with my money for a long time,” said Haddish, who grew up in foster care and has been homeless.
Although Pinkett Smith has treated Haddish to designer handbags, including a Fendi bag, Haddish still has a fake Michael Kors purse and loves a sale. “The last bag I bought myself was a Madden Girl backpack that’s really cute. And it was on sale for $45!” she told People.
