American Airlines Appoints Walmart Executive As Its New VP of Team Member Services

American Airlines announced the hiring of Cornelius Boone as its new vice president of Team Member Services, effective immediately.

“We are making American a company that puts its team at the center of all we do, and our Team Member Services group’s No. 1 job is to take care of the people running the airline,” said Patrick O’Keeffe, senior VP-People. “We knew immediately that Cornelius’ experience, enthusiasm, and clear passion for collaboration would be a perfect fit. We are excited and incredibly fortunate to welcome him to our team.”

Boone will oversee all human resource and people functions that support all of American Airlines’ 120,000 team members, including team member services, team member travel, human resource information systems, project management office, people vendor management, human resource reporting and analytics, and domestic and International people business partners.

He joins American Airlines from Walmart, where he served as VP of Field Hourly Talent Management supporting more than 1 million associates in the United States. In the role, he led a renewed emphasis on improving every aspect of the hourly associate experience in Walmart stores across the country. He earned a bachelor’s degree and a juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas.

Airbnb hired Cassidy Blackwell to advance its global policy goals. First Independent Bank of Detroit hired Kenneth Kelly as CEO. Sonia Cargan will lead American Express’ diversity initiatives. Medical doctor Risa Lavizzo-Mourey will join Intel’s board. CVS Pharmacy hired Derica Rice as its new president of Pharmacy Benefit Business. Richelle Parham joined Best Buy’s board.
