3 Top Black Travel Destinations

Traveling while black is a reality. But we shouldn’t let that stop us from exploring destinations near and far. Here are three vacation hot spots for culture, history and fun in the sun.

  1. Paris, France: Black folks have had a long-running romance with the city of lights. With great shopping, art, food and wine, what’s not to love? With recent terror attacks in mind, however, make sure you check travel alerts first.
  2. Savannah, Georgia: Southern charm is alive and well in Savannah. And so is the city’s poignant history. Check out the haunted Bonaventure Cemetery and make sure to visit the First African Baptist Church, a stop on the Underground Railroad and the oldest black church in North America.
  3. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: With such beautiful people, vibrant culture and a breathtaking landscape, there’s no place quite like Rio, home of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Stroll the white sand beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, take a cable car to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain, shop for local treasures at the Hippie Fair, and snap a selfie in front of the landmark Christ the Redeemer statue.
